the wrapped frame tutorial
how I taught myself to make beautifully bespoke paper wrapped frames
Welcome to The Wrapped Frame Tutorial! An easy to follow, step by step guide to create your very own one-of a-kind hand picture frame.
I started making hand wrapped frames a few years ago, after seeing a similar craft on Instagram. Without having any instructions to follow, I experimented with countless techniques to create the clean and uniform wrapped frame I envisioned. After much trial and error, I finally nailed down my process and have continued to use it time and time again to fulfill custom frame orders, curate holiday frame boxes and teach frame wrapping workshops locally.
Now, for the first time, I have broken my process down into five steps. The tutorial will start with materials, then guide you into stencil making, cutting your paper and finally, wrapping the decorative paper around each edge of your frame.
Something else to note before we jump in; I intend for this tutorial to be a foundation onto which you can build. The following instructions are tailored to my unique process and learning style which, of course, may not work perfectly for everyone. So as you go along feel free to modify and amend where you see fit and don’t be afraid to add your own flair! Remember, imperfection is all part of the process!
